Choir Open Evening

The Pennine Singers Ladies Choir was formed over 30 years ago in the town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

The Pennine Singers was founded in 1975. Initially with only 13 members, the choir grew rapidly. Within the first 10 years the choir had won trophies at 14 musical festivals, broadcast on BBC Radio and made it’s first record.

The choir’s original conductor, Anne Hoyle, held the position for 15 years. In 1990, Anne moved away from the area and Glenys Pallister conducted the choir for a further 17 years. The current conductor, Gareth Beaumont, has been involved in choral music for almost 40 years and brings to the choir a passion for excellence combined with a belief that, above all, singing should be fun for the members and entertaining for the audience. In addition to regular concert invitations, the choir makes regular contributions to charitable events – in particular, NSPCC, The Forget-me-not Trust and the Lions Club. The choir has recently returned to the Competition platform, winning two trophies in 2009.
